The Rules of Magic by Alice Hoffman is a prequel to her book (and the movie) Practical Magic. But it is not necessary to have read (or watched) Practical Magic to enjoy this book.

Franny, Jet, and Vincent always knew they were different. Birds flocked to Franny, Jet knew things, and everyone was obsessed with Vincent but it took a visit to Aunt Isabelle’s Massachusetts house the summer Franny turned 17 for them to begin to understand. They learned the rules, began to figure out what made them different, and became aware of the Owens curse. A story of family, finding yourself,  survival and finding love in spite of a curse.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing an ARC for my review.
