Time for the August Audio Book Round Up. I’ve listened to a mix of audio books, memoir, mystery, and several on the “Must Read” lists,  in the last month and think Why Not Me?  by Mindy Kaling was my favorite.

After listening to Swing Time by Zadie Smith  I’m so undecided. I didn’t love it but didn’t hate it & enjoyed listening to it (loved the narrator’s voice) but am still turning the story over in my head. I am glad that I listened to it because I think if I had read it I would have abandoned it. The story jumped between the present and the situations in the past that lead to the present. I found the present interesting but didn’t care as much about the past. Give it a listen an d see what you think.

The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead is another one of those books that everyone is talking about but I couldn’t seem to find the time to read so I listened to it on audio and I’m glad I did. This fictional story of the Underground Railroad and Cora’s escape from a plantation in Georgia. The story seems so real that you start to believe that this Underground Railroad was the real Underground Railroad. I was invested in Cora and spent time yelling at her. The narration was enjoyable and listening to it was a solid choice.

Back of Beyond by C.J. Box is  an audio book I listened to on a road trip last week & it kept me and my daughter engaged!! Cody Hoyt is a detective back in his home town & his reputation has preceded him & not in a good way. But when a trusted friend dies in questionable circumstances he enlists the help of the best detective on the force. The clues lead Cody to an off the books trip into wilderness of Yellowstone & a tour group his son is a part of. Murder & mayhem & so good!!

Why Not Me? by Mindy Kaelig is the perfect mix of laughter and inspiration. Listening to the audio book allows you to listen to the book in Mindy’s own voice. After listening I wanted to be her friend and I liked her even more. She makes you laugh and admire her work ethic and we need more of her. My favorite of the month because it seemed like a friend was in the car telling me stories.

Give them a listen and let me know what you think.
