Familiar recipes with a twist along with practical tips and memories of her life make up Old-School Comfort Food by Alex Guarnaschelli.
I love a good cookbook! One with pictures that make you hungry, interesting recipes, and practical tips are my favorite. When they are combined with memories of the author/chef they are even better. Old-School Comfort Food doesn’t disappoint. Full of memories of how Alex Guarnaschelli learned to love food and cook. She includes practical tips, including the stuff needed (utensils, pans, etc.)to stock a kitchen. The recipes take things you are familiar with, Green Bean Casserole, and take it beyond the Old-School version. The pictures are mouth-watering and looking at them and reading the recipes makes you want to cook.
I made Evil Cheese Biscuits and they were good. For the sake of honesty I will confess that I didn’t follow the recipe exactly ( I used all shredded cheddar cheese and used milk instead of cream) and they were good. My husband who always puts butter on any type of bread or rolls ate these without butter!! They were that good!!
Highly recommend (4 star) the cookbook and the recipe!
