Nana’s Fudge Cookies are so fudgy and delicious that you won’t want to share them and will be hiding them from your family.

Nana's Chocolate Fudge Cookies

Nana’s Fudge Cookies are a family favorite, they are a must for the Holidays and in fact they are on the menu any time we are all together. But there are several tricks to make them perfect and if you don’t follow them your cookies will be good but not amazing. My Gram and Aunt never quite remembered the tricks and their versions were good but…. The tricks aren’t hard, you just have to remember them: beat the eggs before you add them (beat them well until they are pale yellow and starting to bubble) and most important, DO NOT over bake them. That’s it, if you remember those tricks you will have a fudge cookie that you won’t want to share. Seriously, when I was growing up my Mom would make these cookies and put them in the freezer so there would be some left for Christmas. The freezer was in the laundry room and during the month of December I would find lots of reasons to go in the laundry room and maybe take a cookie or 2 from the freezer, I had to remind myself to leave a few for Christmas. To this day I like these cookies frozen!!! And I will admit I have made them when nobody is home.

I will let you in on a secret, I tweaked the recipe this year. Can you hear my sister screaming “NOOOOOOOOOOO!”? It’s ok Sue, they are still as fudgy and delicious. I replaced the shortening with butter and it really makes no difference in the cookie. If you want to compare it to the original you can find the recipe here.

If you make Nana’s Fudge Cookies put some in the freezer and try them frozen for extra fudgy goodness!!
