A few weeks ago I was reading a book about family and for some reason I started craving Oatmeal Chocolate Chip cookies. I hadn’t had them or thought about them in years but growing up it was my Mom’s and Gram’s go to cookie, they made them a lot!!! And I loved them!! The crunch of the crisp cookie, the sweetness of the brown sugar, the texture of oatmeal making them ‘healthy’ and of course just the right amount of chocolate from the chocolate chips, YUM!!! And once I started to think about them I had to have them and they are just as good as I remembered!!
As I was looking for the recipe in our family recipe book I got to thinking about how different we keep track of recipes now. Back when I was growing up the recipes were on index cards in a recipe box, copied in my Gram’s or Mom’s or whoever gave them the recipe’s handwriting. The ‘good’ recipes were often stained from getting too near the cooking. I remember going through Mom and Gram’s recipe boxes and copying my favorite recipes when I got married and I found the recipe in my recipe box. Of course these days I never use my recipe box, instead I have a huge notebook filled with my favorites and files on my computer or on Pinterest. The convenience of today is nice but I miss seeing my Gram’s or Mom’s handwriting on the cards and seeing which are favorites based on the stains! Wonder how my daughters are going to be keeping recipes when they are my age?
So here is the recipe for Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies. It is the one my family has always made, I didn’t change a step, not sure the origins of it but it is delicious!!
Enjoy and have a Sweet Morning!!
