After making new foods and eating all week I have to get up and MOVE!! My exercise of choice is walking and hiking. So most weekdays I would put on my sneakers and head out my front door for a walk but when we moved to Tennessee 2 years ago I was no longer able to do that. Our house is on a curvy road and forget sidewalks most of the way doesn’t even have shoulders, just ditches or cliffs, so a quick walk was out. So I had to find somewhere to walk – close and safe and if the scenery was pleasant even better. Lucky for me there is a state park 15 minutes from my house!!
Warrior’s Path State Park is PERFECT for my walks!!! There is a paved walk/bike path around an island that is almost ¾ of a mile long plus there are paved roads that lead to the Disc Golf Course and Boat Launch that have wide shoulders. The whole park has AMAZING views of Ft Henry Lake and the surrounding mountains. An added bonus is the number of birds- geese, kingfisher, great blue heron, and scary vulture, and other wildlife (deer, chipmunks) that I see on almost every hike. The park provides a safe environment – other walkers and runners plus staff – and bathrooms accessible year round (plus they are heated in winter!!!) so it is a perfect place to take a walk.
I am trying to walk 2 or more days a week here (the rest on my treadmill) and usually walk about 4 miles when I make it to the park. It is starting to help keep my weight in check but why I really walk is it relaxes me & helps me plan my day and work through the problems of the world. Somedays it’s a struggle to put on my shoes and head out but I am so, so glad when I do!!
If you ever have a chance to visit a Tennessee State Park do!! They are WONDERFUL!!!
